An introduction to Gareth Davies

Your career to date?
After ten years in industry as a Metallurgical Chemist, I needed a new challenge and found my way to be a ‘Man from the Pru’. After a succession of promotions, I found that I had had enough of management and took the opportunity to move back to face to face advice, becoming an IFA in 1999.

I enjoy the support of a number of solicitors and love my work. I am also very proud that my son has joined me, firstly as a paraplanner and now IFA, and he keeps the old man ‘on his toes’.

Working with a small number of specialist solicitors I provide specialised advice in the areas of taxation and trusts, wealth management and care related planning. My simple objective is to be trusted by my clients to manage their affairs with care and diligence.

What do you specialise in?
Long term care, equity release and home reversion plans, inheritance tax planning, specialist investments.

If you could offer one piece of financial advice to an individual, what would it be and why?
If you don't understand it, don't do it.

Which areas of financial planning do you feel an individual should be addressing in the next 2 years?
Ensuring that inflation doesn't erode the value of hard earned savings. Use all tax breaks available.

What is the most common mistake you find individuals make in financial planning?
Trusting their bank to give advice.
